Next Iceman - Feb. 23, 2013!
The ColdAvenger Iceman Triathlon is part of a winter series! Check it out....
2012 race is over! Nearly 90 racers braved the cold to challenge what was the hardest Iceman Course to date! Results are now posted, as are some photos. We will add more and a video in the coming days. Thanks to all the racers, all the fabulous volunteers (the best volunteer crew we've ever had!!!) and especially the amazing sponsors that made the race possible. Can't wait till next year!
The sprint distance event will consist of classic cross-country skiing, mountain biking, running, and sledding along the greenway of the Grand Cities (Grand Forks, ND and East Grand Forks, MN). The course will include short sections of 'more challenging terrain' (i.e. ungroomed skiing, biking/running on snow-mobile trail) in each discipline which are designed to make the race interesting and unique but not daunting.
EVENT DETAILS:
Date: Feb. 23rd, 2013Start time: 9 am
Location: Lincoln park warming house, Grand Forks, ND.
Disciplines: Classic cross country skiing (approx. 3-3.5 miles), Mountain biking (approx. 7 miles), running (approx. 3 miles), and sledding.
Categories: Yeti (solo male and female divisions), Relay (teams of three - open and mixed divisions). Yeti racers will complete the entire course themselves. Each member of a relay team will complete one of the three main legs (ski, bike, run) and the entire team will complete the final sledding challenge.
Registration: Details about the 2013 event will be posted in early fall of 2012.
Course Description: The course changes slightly from year to year. Click on the links to see the maps for each leg from 2011: SKI, BIKE, RUN.
Equipment: Teams and individuals need to furnish their own bikes, ski equipment (boots, poles, skis), and sleds. Snowshoes are allowed but will likely provide little, if any, advantage over the course of the run. Any type of standard mountain bike with knobby tires should suffice.
Sponsors: ColdAvenger, Due North by Surefoot corporation, Surly, and Dakota Harvest will all return as sponsors next year. We'll add other sponsor information as we get it!
