Training (on 2 Hrs a week)

Training can take up loads and loads of time, which is fine if you love training.  But if you don't - or even if you do but have a tough work schedule, significant other, family, or maybe all three - it makes it tough.  Two years ago I decided to start an experiment to see if I could still be age group competitive in serious endurance events on a three hour per week training schedule.  This spring I cut that three hours down to two.  I've trained this way for everything from olympic distance triathlons to week long adventure races, from back-country 30+ mile runs to ultra-distance winter bike races, and even an elite international stage race.  I've not only found that it works, but that it is hard, satisfying, easy to stick to, and that it has gotten me, at 36 years old, in the best shape of my life.  Sure, i could be faster if i worked out more - but fitness gains would come with diminished return on time invested - and truth be told i'm pretty damn happy with how fast I am now.

If you're interested in checking out my philosophy and the past couple years of my efforts, progress, and results - there's a separate website where i keep track of everything.  Links particularly relevant to training for ENDraces will be listed and dated below.  Happy training folks!
